Meaghan and Damon's Engagement Portraits

I'm not really sure where to start in talking about Meaghan and Damon. So I'll start with a partial list:

Meaghan is a Naturopathic Doctor and Acupuncturist, rock climber/surfer/dancer/athlete, Gyrotonics instructor. Damon is a banker who is going to ride from Welches, over Mt Hood via Timberline, to Hood River next weekend. They both work out at an exclusive gym here in Portland in which you have to pass a two week boot camp just to see if they'll let you join. I'm barely scratching the surface here. They're a pretty cool couple.

And they photograph well. We headed to Portland's Cathedral Park for a location engagement portrait session. Here are a few favorites.

Scott and Leigh, Up a Tree

This past summer, Scott and Leigh hired me to photograph their wedding next summer. These two like to plan ahead, which is a good thing when planning a wedding. They told me today they're having an Italian duet--accordian and violin--play at their wedding, which sounds delightful.

The weather this week has been splendid here in the Pacific Northwest. We went out on the Portland Eastside Waterfront and photographed their engagement portraits, which was a lot of fun, especially when they decided to climb up into a willow for some shots. Scott told men, after climbing up into and down out of the tree, "You make me feel so young again!" I'll have to work that into my advertising....

Love at the Center of the Universe

Leslie and David are getting married in Astoria this summer. I'll be there. She said that when she was researching northwest wedding photographers online, that my photographs made her cry. So she hired me. I like that.

The Golden Gate Bridge, Engagement Portraits, and a Nudist Beach

I received an email from a customer this week, whose wedding I will be photographing next summer at Youngberg Hill Vineyard, in Yamhill County, Oregon. She and her fiance just moved to the Bay Area, and she was asking in her email if I had any suggestions regarding who might be a good photographer to do their engagement portraits in San Francisco. I emailed her back and said, in short, I'm in San Francisco right now; let's do them while I'm here. And so we did.

At a friend's suggestion, we went to Baker Beach in the late afternoon, and the view was stunning.





We had heard that some part of Baker Beach is often used as a male nudist beach. We were walking in the direction we thought was the opposite of this area, to take portraits. It wasn't until we were climbing up on the rocks past a gentleman (who appeared to be working on some sort of rock/driftwood scultpure) that we noticed he was wearing only his shirt. Nothing else.

I couldn't resist; I took this engagement portrait discreetly, with some of the unclad company in the background. And no, it won't be included in their final set of images:
