Sara and Jesse's Wedding Storybook

I love to design wedding photography albums. With a history in graphic design, fine art, and photography, the album is a culmination of over a year’s work in telling someone’s wedding story. So for Sara and Jesse’s wedding, I wanted to show both the beautiful venue, and the fun the wedding party and family have together.

Incorporating colorful image backgrounds behind the unfolding wedding story, and published in one of our stunning Fine Art Coffee Table Books, Sara and Jesse now have an heirloom their children and grandchildren will enjoying for decades to come.

Their storybook was just featured on the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers' Real Weddings series. You can view their wedding storybook here.

You can also see their wedding story on my photography website. Crazy dancing! Beautiful location (Youngberg Hill Vineyards and Inn in Yamhill County, Oregon)! Beautiful bride and handsome groom!

Fritz Photography wins Bride's Choice Award at WeddingWire!

WeddingWire, the nation’s leading wedding technology company, just announced that Fritz Photography has won the 2009 Bride’s Choice Awards™ for Portland, Oregon Wedding Photography!

In its inaugural year, the Bride’s Choice Awards recognizes and honors vendors from the WeddingWire Network that demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility. This year’s recipients represent the top three percent of WeddingWire’s vendor community, which includes over 100,000 wedding vendors from across the US. That means Fritz Photography is one of the very best Wedding Photographers in the Portland, Oregon area!

Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the company, the Bride’s Choice Awards are determined exclusively by recent newlyweds through surveys and reviews.

“We are excited to launch this annual award program to honor high-performing vendors based solely on the experiences of our WeddingWire community,” according to Timothy Chi, WeddingWire’s Chief Executive Officer. “This year’s recipients have set the bar high, exhibiting excellent service and expertise in the wedding industry.”

I would like to thank our past wedding photography clients for speaking on our behalf and helping us win the 2009 Bride’s Choice Award! If you are a past wedding client of FritzPhoto, and would like to leave us a review, please do so here at WeddingWire.

Fritz Interviewed on the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers

Would you like to hear the story about how I saved a girl's life at a wedding? Or about my addiction? Or about my trip around the US in a turquoise Datsun B210 with my dad? Or about the fire-breathing bride and her Cheez Whiz? I tell all these stories, and give a lot of good advice about how to hire a great wedding photographer, in a new interview.

The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers just published an interview with me on their blog. Check it out! There are a lot of great stories, good information about wedding photography, and beautiful photographs. You'll get to know me and my passion for photography a little better, and there are lots of links to other photographs and stories you can view online.

When you are looking for the best Portland wedding photographers, call FritzPhoto!

Enjoy!

FritzPhoto Wins in ISPWP Photo Competition

I was privileged recently to be accepted into the exclusive International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers. As the ISPWP describes itself: "The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers is a rarity among online wedding photography directories. We’re small. We’re exclusive. We’re picky. We are a worldwide group of top professional wedding photographers who have the experience, talent, and reputation to deliver outstanding wedding photography to our clients."

The ISPWP has quarterly contests for its members, and I just received noticed that the entry I submitted placed in the top 10 of my category, Movement and Motion. The image is from a wedding I photographed this past summer at Youngberg Hill Vineyard, in Yamhill County, Oregon. (This wedding's photographs are also featured on my new Portland photography website.) These folks could dance!

Amanda and John taken to The Cleaners

We had so much fun with our wedding photography at Portland's new Ace Hotel in downtown Portland this past weekend. John and Amanda were married in their event space called The Cleaners (yes, a converted dry cleaners, complete with the faded Peacock Clenaers sign still hanging outside). The wedding was cozy and intimate, and the Ace staff were super friendly.

We also had fun at their wedding photographing people in our Portland PhotoBooth. We set up a simple studio in the corner, and people come and goof around in front of the camera all they want. It's a lot of fun. People love it!

Stephanie and Scott at Youngberg Hill Vineyard

It's always a little dicey scheduling an outdoor Portland wedding photography shoot at the end of September here in Oregon. But Stephanie and Scott got lucky, with perfect weather. A perfect day for photography. Lots of kids. And at Youngberg Hill Vineyards, where their wedding took place, the grapes were purple and ripe. We each tried one.

This guy sure had fun playing with the kids. Or rather, the kids sure had fun taking him down. What a good sport.

Meaghan and Damon Got Married

This was one of my all-time favorite weddings to photograph.

Back in July I posted some cool engagement portraits of Meaghan and Damon. Well, now they're married.

I love to photograph at Mt Hood Bed and Breakfast. It's a spectacular site, with a clear view of Mt Hood hovering over everything. Mike and Jackie, the owners, make everybody feel like part of the family. And the girls get ready in an old chicken coop. What more could you ask for in a wedding venue?

Here are a few favorites from their wedding. It's hard to pick, when you have around 600 photographs to choose from.

Meaghan's awe-inspiring wedding dress is from Wai-Ching Clothing, out of Seattle. That girl's got class. And some gorgeous wedding dress designs.

Damon's very cool suit is custom tailored, from Duchess Clothier, in Portland. They do nice stuff.

And the cake was from Saint Cupcake! Yum!

Well, a beautiful end to a beautiful day of wedding photography at Mount Hood Bed and Breakfast. Thanks to Kami Aguilar of WedPortland for her great work as wedding coordinator!

Call us to be your Mt Hood Bed and Breakfast wedding photographer!

Floss Your Teeth Before Your Wedding...

...Or else somebody else will have to do it for you.

That's just what happened at Erica Grossman and Dennis Kurtz's wedding. She didn't floss. So I gave them some thread from my camera bag's emergency sewing kit, and Dennis went to work. Right there in the vineyard. It was, to say the least, hilarious.

But it certainly fit in with the fun/crazy atmosphere of their wedding. We had a lot of fun photographing them and their family and friends. The wedding was held at Garden Vineyards in Helvetia. Let me just say, Garden Vineyards is a lot more awe-inspiring than their website lets on. For only being half an hour from the heart of Portland, it's a fantastically beautiful, classy site for a wedding, and a wonderful place for wedding photography.

This is the type of fun stuff we love about vineyard wedding photography in Portland!

Sara and Jesse at Youngberg Hill

It was a beautiful weekend for wedding photography at Youngberg Hill Vineyard, outside of McMinnville, Oregon. Sara and Jesse and their families have been planning this for some time, and we had a blast together. They and their friends put on one of the best wedding dance parties in recent memory, and we had a great time photographing them.

A number of wedding cakes that we have photographed outdoors (in Oregon...) have had their frosting melt and slough off. Unfortunately, it happened at this wedding, to the lower layer of the cake. It turned out to be humorous, for those who looked closely, as the plastic-shrouded newspaper classifieds that showed through were for rather interesting things. This was my favorite: an ad for 'Anonymous Egg Donors Needed.'

There are far too many wonderful photographs than I can post here. You should definitely visit Youngberg Hill sometime; it's a beautiful wedding venue!

Pam and Scott and All That's Hot

Well, Saturday was hot. It was a scorcher.  The funny thing is that you can rarely tell how hot it is from looking at their wedding photographs. Unless you consider the Ziploc baggy of ice that Scott is holding to his head.

I love to photograph weddings at Youngberg Hill Vineyards outside of McMinnville, Oregon. It's Oregon's beautiful Wine Country, Yamhill County.

We got to photograph something we rarely see at weddings these days: the old-fashioned cake smear. Pam and Scott did it with style and gusto.

I just received this note from Pam:
"Fritz, thank you a million times for the beautiful wedding photos. They turned out better than we could ever imagine! We had a great time working with you and sharing our special day. I don't think you realize how easy you make it for the people you are photographing to be themselves. You have an amazing gift and we are so happy to have found you. You did an amazing job and we can't thank you enough. We look forward to seeing the book and you will definitely be seeing us in the future."
